Trama L'uomo nell'ombra
Un giornalista di Londra viene ingaggiato come ghostwriter dall'ex Primo Ministro Britannico, Adam Lang, affinché completi il suo libro di memorie in seguito alla misteriosa scomparsa del precedente scrittore assunto per il ruolo. Il protagonista si reca in Massachusetts, dove il politico si trova per evitare l'estradizione - è infatti stato incriminato dall'Aia per crimini di guerra, e scopre che il libro dovrà essere terminato nell'arco di due settimane. Il reporter per velocizzare la scrittura si trasferisce così in casa di Lang e finisce per scoprire degli oscuri e inquietanti segreti.
