Elizabeth Holmes giunse nella Silicon Valley portando con sé un'innovativa invenzione nel campo medico, la quale battezzò con il nome di "l'Edison". Si trattava di un sofisticato dispositivo racchiuso in una scatoletta nera, capace di eseguire oltre 200 test medici in pochi minuti, utilizzando solamente una singola goccia di sangue.
