Trama Questi sono i 40

Pete e Debbie sono marito e moglie da oltre quattordici anni, durante i quali hanno avuto due figlie, una bambina e l'altra adolescente. Quando entrambi festeggiano il quarantesimo compleanno, la relazione si complica e il peso di quell'età fatidica si fa sentire su entrambi. Incapaci di gestire un menage familiare sempre più difficile, con le figlie che litigano continuamente, i due dovranno cercare di trovare una vita d'uscita per far sopravvivere il loro amore contro tutte le avversità che gli si pongono davanti. Ma non sarà per nulla semplice.
