Trama Il Re delle isole

Nelle Hawaii della seconda metà dell’Ottocento, il duro e ambizioso Whipple “Whip” Hoxworth (Charlton Heston) è un ricco proprietario terriero che gestisce una vasta piantagione di canna da zucchero. Uomo autoritario e determinato, è in conflitto con il figlio Noel, più sensibile e distante dalla sua visione del mondo. Per far prosperare la sua attività, Whip favorisce l’arrivo di lavoratori immigrati, tra cui una comunità giapponese guidata da Sakagawa, con cui si instaurano rapporti complessi tra sfruttamento, rispetto e integrazione.
